Skills Assessment Requirement Reinstatement

Highlights

Starting from 1 July 2023, the skills assessment requirement will be reintroduced for students who are applying for a Temporary Graduate (Subclass 485) visa. The Subclass 485 visa is a temporary visa that enables international students to reside, study, and work in Australia after completing their studies.

Suspension of skills assessment requirement will be lifted

On July 1, 2022, the Department of Home Affairs (Home Affairs) implemented a temporary exemption for the skills assessment requirement concerning the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485). However, starting from July 1, 2023, this exemption will no longer be in effect. To comply with these modifications, applicants must now fulfill the new Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA) as a prerequisite for the Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) application. Meeting the requirements of a successful PSA outcome also grants you eligibility to take part in the Job Ready Program (JRP).

Job Ready Program will give you:

  • the opportunity to develop your skills

  • employment experience in an Australian workplace

  • a skills assessment outcome to apply for a skilled migration visa.

Work and Holiday visa for Indian visitors

Under the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement, the Australian government will introduce additional initiatives. Notably, for the first time, India will be included in the Work and Holiday program. This means that each year, one thousand Indian citizens aged between 18 and 30 will be granted Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visas, allowing them to stay in Australia for up to 12 months.

Here's the list of eligibility criteria for the Work and Holiday visa:

  • Applicants hold a valid Indian passport

  • Applicants should be offshore at the time of lodgment and grant of the visa

  • Lodgment through online applications

  • Have a functional level of English proficiency

  • Have completed at least two (2) years of post-secondary study

  • Meet health and character requirements as specified by Australian law

  • Applicants must not be accompanied by dependent children

  • Pay the visa application charge and have sufficient funds for work and holiday in Australia, and to depart the country
