This provisional visa is for entrepreneurs who are nominated by a State or Territory government. This will enable entrepreneurs to conduct innovative business concepts in Australia.

Check your qualifications

Here are the requirements for the SC 188E visa

Aside from having innovative ideas and sustainable backing from a third party, you also need to fulfill these specified requirements:

  • Nominated by a State or Territory government

    Under 55 years of age (unless granted exemption from a State or Territory that nominates you)

    Have competent English proficiency

  • the commercialisation of a product or service in Australia, or

    the development of an enterprise or business in Australia

    Your activity must not be related to these categories:

    residential real estate

    labour hire

    purchase of an existing enterprise or a franchise in Australia

  • You need to have one or more legally binding agreements for funding totaling at least AUD200,000 from one of the following entities:

    Commonwealth agencies

    State and territory governments

    Publicly funded research organisations

    Investors registered as venture capital limited partnerships or early-stage venture capital limited partnerships

  • You must be endorsed by your nominating State or Territory government agency to develop your entrepreneurial concepts.

Submit your EOI

In applying for this visa, you have to be invited bygain an invitation from an Australian state or territory. To do that, you have to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). The Expression of Interest (EOI) outlines your skills, qualifications, and business experiences. Each nominator will assess your EOI using their own criteria. Unfortunately, for the Financial 2023-2024, these nominators have not yet released any eligibility criteria as the visa program remained close to new applicants.

Get nominated

After submitting your EOI, an Australian State or Territory government agency must nominate you to be able to apply for this visa. 

Update: For the Financial Year 2023-2024, the Australian government didn’t release new allocations for the Business Innovation and Investment Program.

Cost

  • This visa costs AUD6,395.00 for the main applicant.

    • Additional applicant over 18 years old: AUD3,195.00

    • Additional applicant under 18 years old: AUD1,600.00

  • Any applicant 18 years old or older who has less than functional English must also pay an extra charge. 

  • The second instalment charges are:

    • Main applicant: AUD9,795

    • Family members: AUD4,890
