Due to the increasing number of invitations issued for 190 visas, Migration Queensland has been urging lawyers and migration agents to ramp up the registration process of their clients who are skilled workers living in Queensland. Under this circumstance, the registered applicant will be considered for priority processing for a state-nominated visa.

What do you need for this visa application?

Before you consider applying for this visa pathway, you must meet both the Australian Department of Home Affairs criteria and Migration Queensland criteria 

Department of Home Affairs criteria:

  • Have a points-test result of 65 or higher, inclusive of state nomination points;

  • Have a positive skills assessment in your nominated occupation;

  • Be under 45 years of age;

  • Meet the minimum English language requirement of competent, unless a higher level is required by your assessing authority; 

  • Submit additional documents, if invited to lodge an application for a 190 or 491 visa.

Migration Queensland criteria:

  • Have a points-test result of 80 or higher for the 190, and 65 or higher for the 491

  • Have an occupation on the relevant occupation list

  • Have proficient English of higher 

  • If you are lodging an Expression of Interest for a 190 visa: Ensure that you can provide evidence that you have been living in Queensland and undertaking full-time post-qualification employment over the past 6 months in your nominated occupation

  • If you are lodging an Expression of Interest for a 491 visa: Ensure that you can provide evidence that you have been living in regional Queensland and undertaking full-time post-qualification employment over the past 3 months in your nominated occupation

  • Provide evidence of ongoing employment with a Queensland employer

  • Commit to living and working in Queensland for 2 to 3 years

What to do after you gather your documents?

  • You must be currently living and working in Queensland. This is only for skilled workers living in Queensland pathway and does not include graduates of a Queensland university.

  • Check if you meet all Queensland nomination criteria 

  • Must provide a decision-ready application.

  • Get registered with Migration Queensland

What to expect after registration?

  • Registration does not guarantee that an invitation will be issued to you

  • Having reached the required test points does not guarantee an invitation, however immigration usually invites applicants with the highest points.

  • There is no definite date on when to receive an invitation
