835 Visa Remaining Relative (Onshore)

Visa Overview 

835 visa - Remaining Relative Visa (Onshore) allows a person who is already in Australia to live permanently with their only remaining Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Eligible New Zealand Citizen relative. The application must be made onshore during application and be in Australia during the grant of visa.

Eligibility

  • You must be sponsored by an eligible parent or step-parent, sibling or step-sibling, or an eligible partner of your relative

  • Visa will be refused if: 

    • you or your partner have a near relative who usually live outside Australia, or

    • you or your partner have a near relative who lives in Australia on a temporary visa (and are not an Eligible New Zealand citizen) or unlawfully. Temporary visas include bridging visas.

  • For remaining relative visas, your near relative is your:

    • parent or step-parent

    • partner's parent or step-parent

    • sibling or step-sibling

    • child or stepchild who is 18 or older and not dependent on you

    • child or stepchild who is under 18 and not in your or your partner's daily care and control

  • Have the assurance of support 

  • Meet the health and character requirement 

  • Have paid back your debt to the Australian Government 

  • Not have had a visa canceled or a previous application refused

  • Sign the Australian values statement 

  • Best interests of the child

Step 1: Before applying, your passport will have to be checked before you fill out the necessary application forms. 

Step 2: Gathering the documents needed for the application such as: 

  • Identity card 

  • Debt-free certificate

  • Health and character requirements 

  • Financer details 

Step 3: Submit the application 

  • Note: The applicant must be in Australia while applying for the visa 

Step 4: A written declaration stating the application form will be sent to the applicant
