804 Visa Aged Parent (Permanent)
Visa Overview
The 804 Aged Parent visa allows older parents who are already on temporary visas to live in Australia permanently if their child is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia. This is an ‘onshore’ visa application that generates a bridging visa to stay in Australia.
Queue release dates:
There is a cap on how many 804 Visas are issued each year, it can take up to 30 years for you to finally receive your visa. As of June 2021, the Department has released for final processing:
Contributory Parent visa applications with a queue date up to May 2016
Parent visa applications with a queue date up to October 2010
Aged Parent visa applications with a queue date up to December 2012
Benefits
This visa allows aged parents to remain permanently with their children who are living in Australia.
Travel to and from Australia for five (5) years from the date the visa is granted (aged parents will need to apply for a resident return visa or another visa to return to Australia after this period).
You will be allowed to work and study in Australia.
You will be allowed to enrol in Medicare, Australia’s scheme for health-related care and expenses.
Apply for Australian citizenship when you become eligible.
You will not be entitled to automatically receive social security payments or the age pension, and will have to wait:
Two (2) years from the date the visa was granted for most social security payments; and
Ten (10) years from the date the visa was granted for age and disability pension payments.
Eligibility
The eligibility requirements for the Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804) are:
You must have a sponsor in Australia. In most cases, the sponsor is your child, who must be over the age of 18.
You have to pass the Balance of Family Test.
You must be of pension age in Australia.
You have to be of good character.
Your sponsor must provide you with an Assurance of Support. This means that you have an assurance you will not depend on the Australian government for financial support.
You must not have had a previous Australian visa refused or cancelled.
You must not already have an 870 Parent Sponsored Visa. If you do, you must wait for it to expire before you can apply for the 804 Visa.
You must not have an application for the 870 Visa in processing.

The pension age will be gradually increased from 65 to 67 years as set out in the table below.
Assurance of Support
An Assurance of Support (AoS) is a legal undertaking by the sponsor, family relative, an organisation, or any other person who may be eligible to be an assurer, to repay certain social security payments to the Australian Government which has been paid to a person or their family members applying to migrate to Australia during their AoS period.
The assurer is obliged to:
give sufficient financial support so that you or any accompanying family members do not have to rely on any government support, and
reimburse the Australian Government for any recoverable social security payments, this includes payments made by Centrelink to you and any others covered by the Assurance of Support
pay a refundable security bond before the visa is approved
The Assurance of Support is required to remain in place for two years from the date you and any accompanying family members arrive in Australia
How much the guarantee is for depends on if:
an assurer is a person or an organization
there are 1 or 2 adult assures
the assurance of support is for 2 years, 4 years, or 10 years.
Process
Step 1: Your sponsor completes the Sponsorship Form (40). They must give you the form to attach to the rest of your required documents.
Step 2: You collect the required documents and evidence.
Step 3: Travel to Australia, if you are not already there.
Step 4: Pay the first installment of the visa fee.
Step 5: Submit the application on paper.
Step 6: Wait for the visa to be processed.

Costs
The fee for an 804 Aged Parent Visa is AUD 6,490 paid in two installments. There are going to be additional visa fees for each member of your family that applies alongside you. The pricing is as follows:
The initial fee for the main applicant: AUD 4,425
The initial fee for each dependent applicant over the age of 18: AUD 2,215
The initial fee for each dependent applicant under the age of 18: AUD 1,110
The second installment – for each person included on the application is AUD 2,065.
