The new TSMIT of $73,150 came into effect last 1 July 2024. From such date forward, all new nomination applications (482 visa, 186 visa, 494 visa) must meet the new TSMIT of $73,150 or the annual market salary rate, whichever is higher. This ensures that skilled migrants are fairly compensated in line with market conditions and the cost of living. Importantly, this change will not affect existing visa holders or nominations lodged before 1 July 2024. These individuals will continue to operate under the previous TSMIT of $70,000.

Work and Holiday Visa Updates

  • UK citizens

    • UK citizens now benefit from new exemptions under the Working Holiday Visa program. These changes include extending the eligible age range from 30 to 35 years and removing the ‘specified work’ requirement. Previously, this requirement involved completing tasks such as fruit picking, construction labor, or mining activities in designated regional areas to qualify for a second or third visa. These updates aim to encourage more young UK citizens to engage in cultural exchange and work opportunities in Australia.

  • China, Vietnam, and Indian citizens

    • The Government will introduce a visa pre-application (ballot) process for the capped Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa program for China, Vietnam, and India from 2024–25. The ballot process will help to manage program demand and application processing times for these countries.

  • Philippine citizens

    • Filipinos are now eligible for Australia's Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462). This new change allows Filipinos aged 18-30 to take on short-term jobs to fund their travels and explore Australia freely during their stay.
