South Australia Skilled & Business Migration Program Now Open
Last Thursday, South Australian Government reopened their Skilled and Business Migration Program for both overseas talents and onshore skilled migrants. The number of occupations opened for offshore applicants has returned to pre-pandemic levels with more than 470 occupations for FY 2022-23 program. This is a big increase compared to the previous financial which only saw the opening of 380 occupations.
Prioritised nominations
For FY2022-23, South Australia will prioritise nominations within the following industries:
Health
ICT
Education
Engineering
Agribusiness
Trades
Hi-Tech
Digital
Health & Life Sciences
Green Energy
Defence
Space & Cyber Security
South Australia’s focus is to nominate onshore migrants to retain in-demand skills. However, highly skilled offshore applicants will also be priortised in order to fill critical skill shortages.
South Australia Nomination Streams
South Australian Graduates
This stream is for international graduates who have studied in SA and is a great pathway, especially for high-performing graduates, who may benefit from certain concessions or waivers within this stream.
Working in South Australia
This stream is for skilled migrants who are currently living in SA and working in their nominated occupation. Eligible candidates may include those who hold temporary visas, international graduates, self-employed and sub-contractors.
Outer Regional South Australia
This stream is for skilled migrants who have made important contributions to supporting regional South Australian communities and businesses. Eligible candidates may benefit from certain work experience concessions within this stream. Working Holiday makers may also apply for this stream.
South Australia Long-Term Residents
This stream is for long-term residents of SA who do not qualify for other nomination streams and are not currently working in their nominated occupation. Holders of the Safe Haven Enterprise visa may also apply for this stream.
Highly Skilled and Talented
This stream is for highly skilled migrants who have made contributions to SA either through their demonstrated talent or supporting innovation. This stream is open to skilled migrants living in SA, other Australian states and territories as well as offshore candidates.
Offshore
This stream is for skilled migrants currently residing outside Australia who have submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) via the Commonwealth Government’s SkillSelect system.
Australia States and Territories Skilled Migration Program for Financial Year 2022 - 2023
Addressing the country’s shortages on labour workforce, Australian states and territories consequently opened their skilled migration program for F.Y. 2022-2023.
State and Territory Nomination Allocation
Australian Capital Territory (ACT)
ACT has increased its allocation from 2,000 places for FY 2021-22 up to 2,720 places for the current FY 2022-23. ACT recently updated its occupation list, adding more occupations and also removing a few from the list.
Main Eligibility Criteria for Offshore candidates
Subclass 491 visa - 3 years of post-graduate experience in the nominated occupation
Subclass 190 visa - A job offer of 2 years to be eligible
On 16 August, Queensland opened its migration program for the year 2022-23 for onshore and offshore applicants. Queensland is among the states who now welcome offshore skilled migrants to apply for subclass 190 and 491 visas. Queensland also announced its list of occupations and revealed high opportunities for IT, Engineering and Trades.
Main Eligibility Criteria
Must have a score of
80 points or more for subclass 190
65 points or more for subclass 491
Must have an occupation listed on the Queensland occupational list (and meet the required scores)
Must have a minimum of 3 years of post-study work experience
Tasmania
Tasmania state has a total of 3350 allocations for the skilled migration program. We recently posted an article regarding the upcoming changes to Tasmania's skilled migration program here. However, Tasmania's skilled migration program for FY 2022-23 is not open. We are still waiting and expecting to receive an update in the coming weeks.
Victoria
On 11 August, Victoria opens its Skilled Migration Program for FY 2022-23 for both onshore and offshore applicants. The state’s previous program (2021-22) was fierce, as they received more than 15,00 ROI. Now, they invite those who are not selected to submit a new ROI for the 2022-23 program.
Main Eligibility Criteria
Must be less than 45 years of age
Have an occupation on the Department of Home Affairs list of occupations
Committed to residing in Victoria
At least 65 points
Must have a competitive English score
