Enhancing temporary visa settings to support Australia’s economic recovery

As part of the initiative in supporting Australia’s COVID recovery, Minister Hawke has announced several concessions for the following temporary visa:

Skilled Recognised Graduate Subclass 476 Visa
The validity of this visa will be extended to 24 months for engineering graduates who have lost time due to border restrictions. This equtes to the usual validity of 18 months with an addition of another 6 months.

Training Subclass 407 Visa
The limit on working hours will be removed across all sectors - which was previously 40 hours a fortnight. This will be reviewed again in April 2022.

COVID-19 Pandemic Event Subclass 408 Visa
Temporary visa holders (TVH) with work rights will be able to access these visas with no visa application charges for 6-12 months if you work in any sector of the Australian economy.

This arrangement is available to TVH:

  • who were in Australia prior to 21 February 2022, or

  • arrived in Australia after 21 February 2022 and have work rights or a job offer from a Commonwealth funded aged care service at the time of application.

These TVH will be able to apply for these visas up to 90 days before their existing visa expires and remain in Australia for up to 6 months if not working in a key sector or 12 months if working in the key sectors of:

  • agriculture

  • food processing

  • health care

  • aged care

  • disability care

  • child care

  • tourism and hospitality
