Australia provides two visa pathways for qualified individuals to work in eligible skilled occupations with state or territory nomination:

  • Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190): A permanent visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory.

  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491): A temporary visa for skilled workers nominated to live and work in regional Australia.

2024-25 State Nomination Migration Program

  • Western Australian government will continue to waive the $200 application fee.

  • Additional employment contract arrangements for candidates invited through the General Stream – WASMOL – Schedule 1

  • Invitation rounds for the 2024-25 program year are anticipated to be held the first week of each month

The 2024-2025 South Australia State-Nominated Skilled Migration Program has received the following visa allocations:

  • Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190): 3,000 places

  • Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491): 800 places

Onshore Stream:

  • Eligible onshore applicants who meet the program requirements can now submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) for one of the 464 available occupations

Offshore Stream:

  • The offshore stream provides 427 occupations for experienced overseas workers seeking to live and work in South Australia.

  • The 2024-2025 program year nomination received a large number of applications, thus the NT government suspended the online portal for new applications. Exemptions applied

  • Once nomination allocations are received for the 2025-26 program year, the program will be reopened for new applications.

For the 2024-25 financial year, Queensland has been allocated a total of 1,200 nomination places, comprising:

  • 600 places for the Skilled Nominated (Permanent) Visa (subclass 190), and

  • 600 places for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491).

New South Wales State Nomination Criteria

NSW identifies occupations based on the current labour market needs, ensuring that skilled workers fill essential roles across various industries. The following occupations have been prioritised for the 2024-2025 migration program:

  • Healthcare Professionals

  • Engineers and Construction Workers

  • Information and Communication Technology

  • Education professionals

  • Agricultural Professionals

Victoria State Nomination Criteria

The Australian Government has allocated a total of 5,000 places to Victoria for the 2024-2025 migration program, distributed as follows:

  • Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) – 3,000 places

  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – 2,000 places

Tasmania State Nomination Criteria

Tasmania has announced its 2024-2025 skilled visa nomination program, featuring a significantly increased allocation of places. With 2,860 skilled visa nomination spots—more than double the previous year’s allocation—there are now greater opportunities for skilled workers.

  • The program remains highly competitive, with 1,200 applications already submitted since 1 August 2024.
