Teachers and nurses see visas processed in 3 days
As we see huge changes in how skilled visas are being processed, applications for teachers and healthcare professionals have now been placed in top priority. We see applications being evaluated in as fast as three days.
Based on the new Ministerial Direction No. 100, occupations with fast-track evaluation include the following:
school teachers,
health and welfare support workers,
childcare center managers,
medical scientists,
counselors,
psychologists,
social workers,
medical technicians.
In addition, a new order of priority for skilled visa applications has been introduced by the Department of Home Affairs:
Healthcare or teaching occupation applications;
For employer-sponsored visas, applicants nominated by an Approved sponsor with Accredited Status;
Those from a designated regional area;
For permanent and provisional visa subclasses, visa applications that count towards the migration program, excluding the Subclass 188 (Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional)) visa;
All other visa applications.
A faster visa application process is Australia's number one priority
With the government's goal to reduce the visa backlog, they will remove the time-consuming and complex assessment process. According to a spokesperson for the Department of Home Affairs, "Removal of the PMSOL will allow more applications to be processed faster, particularly for the critical Temporary Skill Shortage visa, which is designed to respond rapidly to labor market needs"
The new changes in the system have made 120% more grants for 120 percent grants of temporary skilled visa, compared last year. As of 1 June 2022, the Department of Home Affairs has finalized more than 43,000 temporary skilled and 47,000 permanent skilled visas.
These numbers are expected to increase as the government added around 442 extra staff to work on temporary and migration visa processing.
