Victoria 2022-23 Skilled Migration Program Now Open!

Last Thursday, Victoria opens its Skilled Migration Program. The state’s previous program (2021-22) was fierce, as they received more than 15,00 ROI. Now, they invite those who are not selected to submit a new ROI for the 2022-23 program.

Offshore applicants are welcome!

Victoria also invite applicants living outside Australia to submit ROI. For Subclass 190 visa, all eligible occupations are open for overseas applicants. However, for Subclass 491, Victoria prioritise nomination for health occupations.

Ease on requirements

Applicants no longer required with STEMM skills and working in a target sector they apply for. All occupations on the Department of Home Affairs occupation list are now eligible

Victoria Skilled Migration Criteria for 2022 - 23

Subclass 190 Visa - Skilled Nominated Visa

  • Onshore & Working in Victoria (claiming annual earnings in your ROI)

    • You must support all your claimed earnings with documents in your application

      • Current employment contract

      • Most recent pay slips (four weeks' pay)

      • Extract from your superannuation account the most recent contribution from your employer

      • Position description that describes your role

    • All earnings you claim must be from skilled employment in Victoria.

      • Any role that is at skill levels 1, 2 or 3 in the relevant ANZSCO classification

  • Offshore Applicants

    • You must prove you’re committed to living in Victoria

    • You must have a valid Skills Assessment and meet the further requirements listed below

  • Further Requirements

    • Age: Must be under 45 years of age at the time of nomination

    • English Language: Must have at least Competent English (English test result must have at least 12 weeks validity when you submit your nomination application)

    • You must have at least 65 points on the Australian Government’s points test, including the 5 points for the state and territory nomination

    • ROI:

      • Submit a Registration of Interest

      • Keep your SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI) up to date, with info on where you currently reside. All information you provide as part of your SkillSelect EOI with the Department of Home Affairs will be used by the state to assess your ROI.

      • ROI from onshore applicants living in Australian states and territories other than Victoria will not be selected.

    • Skills Assessment

      • Your nominated occupation must be on the eligible skilled occupation list.

      • Your nominated occupation in your Skills Assessment must match the information in your EOI with the Department of Home Affairs.

      • Your Skills Assessment must have at least 12 weeks of validity remaining when you submit your nomination application.

Subclass 491 Visa - Skilled Work Regional (Provisional)

  • Onshore

    • You must be living and working in regional Victoria with a skills assessment in an occupation on the eligible skilled occupation list for subclass 491 visa.

    • Must be working in regional Victoria in skilled employment to be eligible to submit ROI. Skilled employment does not have to be at the same skill level or closely related to your nominated occupation.

    • Working in Victoria

      • You must support all your claimed earnings with documents in your application

        • Current employment contract

        • Most recent pay slips (four weeks' pay)

        • Extract from your superannuation account with the most recent contribution from your employer

        • Position description that describes your role

        • All earnings you claim must be from skilled employment in Victoria.

        • Any role that is at skill levels 1, 2 or 3 in the relevant ANZSCO classification

    • Safe Haven Enterprise Visa Holders:

      • Subclass 790 visa holders will be prioritised considering they meet all subclass 491 nomination criteria

  • Offshore Applicants

    • You must submit a ROI (Victoria currently prioritise health occupations for offshore)

    • You must prove you’re committed to live in Victoria

  • Further Requirements

    • Age: Must be under 45 years of age at the time of nomination

    • English Language: English test results must have at least 12 weeks of validity when you submit your nomination application

    • You must have at least 65 points on the Australian Government’s points test, including the 15 points for the state and territory nomination

    • ROI:

      • Your ROI must be selected by Victoria State before you apply for skilled visa nomination.

      • If you already submitted an ROI but have not received an invite from Victoria, you cannot apply.

    • Living in Victoria

      • Must be working in regional victoria at the time of nomination

        • Geelong and parts of outer Melbourne such as Mornington Peninsula and Pakenham are considered regional for skilled migration purposes.

        • In case you live in a border community, you may be eligible if you can clearly demonstrate that you either live or work in Victoria.

      • Show evidence of a lease, bond receipt, utilities or other documents that prove you reside in Victoria at the time of nomination.

In a recent update sent to the education institute, the department stated, ”this is the largest number of offshore applications received in a single month in the last 10 years.”

Australia Visa Caseload Overview

A few important details from the confidential Department of Home Affairs Incoming Government Brief uncovered through Freedom of Information laws. This unveils a few important details on Immigration status.

As of 13 May this year, a total of 962,679 non-humanitarian active visa applications. 571,386 for temporary visas, 149,874 skilled, 232,331 for family visas (54,000 first stage partner visa applications), and 9,088 for Resident Return Visa (RRV). Out of all the active visas, 130,638 are in the visa category subject to capping and/or queuing.
