New updates for the Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program

Opening of the Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program

As of 12 September 2022, Gold and Green pass applicants will be able to apply for the Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program. This means that candidates can now express their interest in nomination if they meet the prerequisites for one of the pathways and have at least one gold or green priority attribute.

Candidates who qualify for a visa must:

  • Seek an invitation from Migration Tasmania first before applying for nomination

  • Hold Gold or Green attribute

Tasmania Gateway Pass - When to apply

Gold Pass - You can immediately apply for the nomination when you receive a gold pass.

Green Pass - An invitation will be sent to you within the next 6 to 8 weeks when you receive a green pass. Waiting time for an invitation will depend on how many priority attributes you possess and the number of interests the Tasmanian Government has received. If you do not receive an invitation within 6 months, you will need to complete a new registration in the gateway.

Red Pass - You cannot apply for the nomination if you receive a Red Pass as it means that you do not meet the Tasmanian Government nomination requirements.

All qualified candidates must first request an invitation from Migration Tasmania in order to submit an application for nomination during this interim period - please note that this is a temporary measure. In October 2022, all applicants who satisfy the prerequisites will be able to register their interest in the Application Gateway. More information will be made available soon.

A list of questions and answers regarding the 2022-23 Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program are now available on the Migration Tasmania website.

The Australian government has given Tasmania a temporary allocation of nomination slots for skilled visas during the program year 2022–2023.

Tasmania’s interim allocation includes:

  • Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa: 2000 places

  • Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visa: 1350 places

After the first quarter of 2022–2023, the Department of Home Affairs will reassess these allocations and take into account any modifications to the skilled migration program that may be disclosed in the October Federal Budget.

The updated lists for the NSW Skilled Program (subclass 190 & 491 visas)

NSW does not use the ANZSCO code for nominating candidates; instead, it uses the ANZSCO Unit Group level (4-digit code). The legislative instrument (LIN 19/051) encourages candidates and professionals to determine whether their 6-digit ANZSCO vocation qualifies under the appropriate visa subclass.

Some examples where the Unit Group is eligible for NSW nomination, but specific occupations are not:

Unit Groups eligible, but occupations not eligible for Subclass 190 visa:

  • 133112 Project Builder

  • 411211 Dental Hygienist

  • 312911 Maintenance Planner

  • 251311 Environmental Health Officer

Unit Groups eligible, but occupations not eligible for Subclass 491 visa:

  • 135111 Chief Information Officer

  • 212414 Radio Journalist

  • 242112 University Tutor

  • 612114 Real Estate Agent
