Everything You Need to Know About Australia’s Most In Demand Occupations and the Best States to Venture In

With Australia currently experiencing a labour crisis arising from border closures, the country has opened up 160,000 permanent migration allocations to help solve this. In line with this, the federal government released a list which is considered to be the “Top 10 jobs of the future”.

  • Construction managers

  • Civil engineering professionals

  • Early childhood teachers

  • Registered nurses

  • ICT (information and communications technology) business and systems analysts

  • Software and applications programmers

  • Electricians

  • Chefs

  • Child carers

  • Aged and disability carers

The migration capacity of 160,000 is subject to prioritizing skilled workers with more than two-thirds of the migrants expected to arrive in Australia through seven of the various skilled visas available.

What states are the easiest to migrate to in Australia

This is a critical move made by Australia where we also see states and territories easing certain visa requirements as they compete to attract the best skilled migrants. Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, and South Australia are the top three states which have shown flexibility in their visa requirements.

Victoria

  • Opened state nomination to include occupations to include almost every industry. You must have 65 points at minimum (including points awarded for state nomination) to be nominated by Victoria for the State Nominated visa (subclass 190).

  • The state has also eased the eligibility requirements for submitting a Registration of Interest (ROI) for State Nomination under Subclass 491 and 190. Residents of Victoria as well as those living outside the state can register their interest in State Nomination.

  • Removed the requirement that applicants must seek permanent residency through skilled migration work in their nominated occupation. Anyone with experience in any occupation at skill levels 1 to 3 and a minimum of 65 points is eligible to apply for ROI.

Australian Capital Territory

  • Only requires at least 65 points to be invited to apply for ACT 491 nomination. An invitation for 190 nominations will depend on demand and remaining allocation.

  • The ACT's occupation criteria is very broad and includes more than 420 jobs on the Commonwealth's skilled list.

  • As of 24 June 2022, 95 new occupations has been added to the Critical Skills List.

South Australia

  • The number of occupations open to offshore applicants has increased from 370 to 470 in the current year.

  • Only requires at least 65 points to be nominated. It also provides additional 15 points towards the 2 skilled migration visa options for skilled migrants, which provide pathways to obtaining your Australian permanent residency.

What does this mean for you?

With these new measures and flexibilities introduced to the skilled migration program, it would be in your best interest to make use of this opportunity to plan out your migration pathway. Common mistakes made by applicants include the following:

  • Wrongly claiming points on their EOI or ROI

  • Choosing the wrong nominated occupation

  • Incorrectly filling up forms

  • Not preparing enough documents to substantiate points claimed
