Temporary Skill Shortage Visa – Subclass 482
April 16, 2020

About Subclass 482

The subclass 482 visa also known as the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa allows Australian companies to sponsor and recruit overseas skilled workers to fill in positions with labor shortages. This visa grants the holder to a 2 year stay in Australia

What Are My Options?

There are 3 streams available for this visa.

  1. Short-Term Stream

This is for employers to outsource highly skilled overseas workers for occupations listed under the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). This is applicable for a maximum of 2 years each time or up to 4 years if an international trade obligation applies

2. Medium Term Stream

This is for employers to outsource highly skilled overseas workers for occupations listed under the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupations List (ROL) for up to 4 years (each time) with eligibility to apply for permanent residence after 3 years.

3. Labor Agreement Stream

This is for employers to outsource overseas skilled workers in accordance with a labor agreement with the Commonwealth. This must be on the basis of a demonstrated need that cannot be met in the Australia labor market. The Labor Agreement Stream can be applicable for up to 4 years.

Am I Eligible?

You must be nominated for a position under the Skilled Occupations List. In addition to this, you must meet other basic requirements of the visa as follows:

  • You must have worked in the nominated occupation or related field for at least 2 years to demonstrate the ability to work in the nominated field.
  • You must meet English competency requirements depending on your stream.

Requirements for Employer:
Employers seeking overseas workers must prove their inability to pay their workers appropriately which in any case should be above the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT), which is currently $53,900 plus superannuation as set by the Department of Home Affairs each year.

What Are My Benefits?

  • Complete a workplace-based training/professional development training program
  • Stay in Australia up to 2 years
  • Include family member on your application
  • Travel in and out of Australia as many times as you want as long as your visa is valid

Our Process

Step 1: Book Your Consultation
The first essential step in your migration process is to book a consultation. This is the stage where we identify the best and most suitable pathway for your circumstances.

Step 2: Personalized Migration Action Plan (MAP)
After attending a consultation with us, we will provide you with a personalized MAP. This includes a checklist where we tell you how to prepare relevant documents and samples if necessary.

Step 3: Collection, Review, and Drafting
An application is not just about the submission of documents – it also includes the process of reviewing the documents to make sure that they are up to standard. What we mean by this is to ensure that every piece of documentation that we submit has been carefully reviewed by our migration specialists based on the standard of the Department of Immigration.

Step 4: Lodgment and Submission
Here at Think Visa, we prepare what we like to call, Decision Ready Applications. This means that applications prepared by us are not only of high standard but also organized in a manner that is easy for the case officer to decide on and therefore significantly reducing processing time for you. There are circumstances that might require you to provide additional information in which we try to anticipate beforehand.
