About Subclass 491 Visa
A subclass 491 visa replaces the previously subclass 489 Visa in 2019. The 491 visa is point-tested that allows eligible skilled workers to live, work and study in designated regional areas of Australia for 5 years provided all requirements are met. This visa also has a permanent residency pathway through the subclass 191 Visa.
Am I Eligible?
To be qualified for this visa, you must meet the general requirements as listed below:
- Must be under 45 years old
- Must have competent English skills
- Possess a positive skills assessment
- Must have at least 65 points
- Must be nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency, or an eligible relative usually resident in the designated area.
- For some regional state nominations such as Victoria and Tasmania, you need to have a job offer in the relevant field in a regional area.
- Can be inside or outside Australia when applying.
- Skills Assessment
Because the 491 visa is point-tested, attaining a positive skills assessment is the first step of the application. This allows us to determine the most suitable occupation for you while providing evidence on work experience and qualifications you have.
2. Expression of Interest
Upon attaining a positive skills assessment, the next step is submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI). This step is where we claim that the points presented are relevant to you. At this point, the department will assess and issue and invitation if they have ranked you to be higher than other migrants.
An applicant of this visa must be nominated either by an Australian state or territory government agency; or by an eligible family member residing in a designated regional area.
4. Visa Application
Upon receiving a formal invitation by the Department of Immigration, you will be eligible to prepare and lodge your visa application. This is the part where you need to provide the points claimed by your EOI.
