The Australian government recognizes that the increase in the VAC for Partner Visas will be disappointing for many people. A key commitment of the Government is to repair the budget and fund policy priorities. An increase to the Partner Visa VAC is one of a range of measures that has been introduced achieve that objective.
The Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) urges Government to reconsider dramatic Partner visa fee increase. MIA National President Angela Chan FMIA, said that the increase was questionable because of the size of increase by 50%, the vulnerable applicants who have been targeted to pay the increase, the lack of any improved service that the increase will bring, and the diminishing importance afforded to family migration.
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection is anticipating a dramatic increase in applications received in the time between this announcement and 1 January 2015.
