About Subclass 173  

A Contributory Parent Visa or Subclass 173 is a temporary visa intended for parents who want to visit and potentially migrate to Australia. This visa is valid for 2 years upon approval.  

Am I Eligible?  

To qualify for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:  

Applicant Requirements:  

• Have a sponsor living in Australia who meets the requirements  
• Must meet the balance-of-family test 

Sponsor Requirements:  

• Must be 18 years old or above.  
• Must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

• Work and study in Australia (but without government support)  
• Enroll in Medicare 
• Exit and re-enter Australia as much as you want so long as visa is valid
